Celebrate the Past

Monday, September 25, 2017

Bill and I were able to participate in a special remembrance this weekend: the 175th Anniversary of Cadiz Baptist Church.

Bill grew up in Cadiz and this was his church. In a very short period of time -- like five years or so -- this smalltown church in western Kentucky produced five young people committed to full time ministry. Bill was one of them.

Saturday night we were able to hear from some of the former music ministers. They sang and we sang. It was an incredible night of worship and recollection.

Sunday we had a lovely service, a potluck, and a final program. We were reunited with many current and former members and staff members. We shared stories and hugs and laughter. We took lots of pictures. And we sealed up a time capsule to be opened at the 200th Anniversary.

We should celebrate milestones more often.

We should remember our heritage.

At Cadiz Baptist we didn't spend time talking about the difficulties of the past 175 years -- we celebrated the good stuff. We didn't raise up one individual over another -- we worshiped the Lord.

Thank you, Lord, for churches like Cadiz Baptist who have sought to faithfully love and embrace your children over the decades. Help us to do the same today in our respective churches. May we bring you joy and give you the glory.
