Top 10 Resolutions: Travel More

Top 10 New Year’s Resolutions:
Travel More

I love to travel. We have made a point of planning trips a couple of times a year to SOMEwhere. When my parents lived in Florida, we went down there once or twice a year and then went to Cypress Gardens or Disney or Weeki Wachee or Cedar Key. . . . Many times we stopped in Atlanta either going or coming to see a baseball game (if the Giants were in town). We've driven across the country twice -- once to San Francisco with Bill's mom and dad when the boys were little and once to Seattle when we were headed to Alaska on a cruise. I remember the first time I saw the St. Louis Arch and the Golden Gate Bridge and the Grand Canyon. . . .  We live in a beautiful country!

So if traveling is on your "to do" list for 2017, there are lots of resources out there to help you plan.

"Lonely Planet" has a great website which includes the category of "Best in Travel 2017."
Here they list their Top 10 Countries to Visit:
  1. Canada
  2. Colombia
  3. Finland
  4. Dominica
  5. Nepal
  6. Bermuda
  7. Mongolia
  8. Oman
  9. Myanmar
  10. Ethiopia
I've been to one of those countries -- Canada!

"Lonely Planet" also lists their Top 10 Cities in the World to Visit:
  1. Bordeaux, France
  2. Capetown, South Africa
  3. Los Angeles, California, USA
  4. Merida, Mexico
  5. Ohrid, Macedonia
  6. Pistoia, Italy
  7. Seoul, South Korea (I've been there!)
  8. Lisbon, Portugal
  9. Moscow. Russia
  10. Portland, Oregon, USA (really?)
Did you know Kentucky has 49 state parks? parks.ky.gov has a great listing. If you've been to five or fewer of the parks, this might be the year to investigate them.

How about a baseball tour. Now that's right down my alley. Within driving distance of Lexington you've got:
  • Cincinnati Reds
  • Cleveland Indians
  • Chicago White Sox
  • Chicago Cubs
  • St Louis Cardinals
  • Atlanta Braves
All of those cities are very "explorable" in my book.

Perhaps you should consider going on a mission trip to a foreign country. There are, of course, countless opportunities out there. But here are a few places that come to mind:
  • Haiti
  • Kenya
  • Tanzania
  • Romania
  • Spain
  • Portugal
  • France
  • Russia
So really the list of possible places to visit is endless. But nothing is going to happen unless you make a plan and execute it.

Keep in mind that no matter where you go, people need the Lord. We may be the only reflection of Jesus they see. So smile. Be nice. Tip well. Say hello. Pray for them. And be ready to take any witnessing opportunities the Lord gives you.

Enjoy your travels!

Lord, whether we venture across the street or across the globe, help us to represent you well. Take us where you want us to go
