Vacation in Kentucky

Wednesday, May 16, 2018

School will be out soon and you may find yourself looking for things to do that aren’t too far away. The next few days, I’m going to look at some vacation destinations in and around Kentucky. Maybe this will give you some ideas for the summer.

Mammoth Cave is a fabulous place to visit in central Kentucky. I don’t know how many cave tours there are but they’re all really cool — literally. It’s a great place to go on a hot summer day. They have a lodge and camping available. Or just make it a day trip.  Mammoth Cave

Breaks Interstate Park: Located on the Kentucky/Virginia border between Elkhorn City and Haysi is “The Grand Canyon of the South.” There is only one other interstate park in the US and it is on the border of Wisconsin and Minnesota. I understand the Breaks is fabulous for hiking, boating, and being lazy. I’ve never been there but it is most definitely on my “to do” list.  Breaks Park

Water parks: Playing in the water is always fun and Kentucky has at least ten water parks/aquatics centers. Don’t forget to apply sunscreen liberally and often.
Kentucky Museums: The list is a mile long! Did you know we have a Saddle Factory Museum in Russellville? Or a Civil War Museum in Bardstown? Have you ever been to the Headley-Whitley Museum in Lexington? What about the Corvette Museum in Bowling Green or the Quilt Museum in Paducah? I’m telling you, the possibilities are endless if you’ve got a rainy day/weekend on your hands.

I could go on and on about things to do here. If you and your family get bored in Kentucky this summer, it’s not my fault!
  • Go to the Creation Museum.
  • Go to see Noah’s Ark.
  • Spend a Day at the Kentucky Horse Park.
  • Check out the Louisville Slugger Museum and then go see the River Bats play a minor league game.
  • Go shopping in the downtown stores across the state.
  • Go see the Kentucky Dam.
  • Go see a matinee.
  • Go see the Stephen Foster Story.
Have fun exploring. I’d love some feedback if you get to go to one of these places this summer!
