Shipwrecked: Rescued From Powerlessness

When You Are Powerless,
Jesus Rescues
One day Peter and John were going up to the temple at the time of prayer—at three in the afternoon.
Now a man who was lame from birth (Acts 4:22 says he was over 40 years old) was being carried to the temple gate called Beautiful, where he was put every day to beg from those going into the temple courts. When he saw Peter and John about to enter, he asked them for money.
Peter looked straight at him, as did John. Then Peter said, “Look at us!”
So the man gave them his attention, expecting to get something from them.
Then Peter said, “Silver or gold I do not have, but what I do have I give you. In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, walk.”
‭‭Acts‬ ‭3:1-6‬ ‭NIV‬‬
What a wonderful story. You talk about powerlessness. This man had been at the mercy of his friends and family to move him from place to place for over 40 years! He was totally dependent on the generosity of people going in and out of the temple. Did they really even see him anymore after all that time? He was trapped.

Do you think the man was disappointed when Peter said he had no money for him? Perhaps at first. But when he was healed he was exuberant! The Scripture says he went running and leaping and praising God! His legs worked correctly for the first time in his life. And there was no residual weakness requiring physical therapy or anything. He was fully whole.

Sometimes Satan gets us all tangled up in his mind games to the point that we are crippled and incapacitated. But through the unfathomable power of God, we have the authority to defeat Satan with a single word — the matchless name of Jesus! So we can go running and leaping and praising God for His victory in our lives.
