Discipline yields wisdom

Wednesday, June 20, 2018
My son, do not despise the LORD’s discipline, and do not resent his rebuke, because the LORD disciplines those he loves, as a father the son he delights in.
Blessed are those who find wisdom, those who gain understanding, for she is more profitable than silver and yields better returns than gold.
She is more precious than rubies; nothing you desire can compare with her.
Proverbs‬ ‭3:11-15‬ ‭NIV‬‬
Consider the following scenario:

The parents of a young child warn her repeatedly not to go near or touch the stove. One day, something in a skillet intrigues her. Although she does not actually touch the stove, she accidentally bumps the skillet and it falls to the floor, causing a huge mess and the loss of their dinner.

Her parents, relieved that she is unhurt, include having their daughter help in cleaning up the mess as part of her punishment for disobeying their warnings.

The next time she is curious about something on the stove, the little girl remembers how scary it was when the skillet fell, the nastiness of cleaning up the floor, and the sadness of having disappointed her parents. And she does not touch the stove.

Discipline can lead to wisdom. And wisdom is a beautiful thing.
