July 22, 2018 - Memory Verse

Focus this week on the
CHRISTIAN LIFE

Submit yourselves, then, to God.
Resist the devil,
and he will flee from you.
James 4:7 NIV

“Por tanto, sométanse a Dios. Resistan, pues, al diablo
y huirá de ustedes.
Santiago 4:7 NBLH

When we think of submission, we naturally think of it in human terms.
  • children submit to their parents
  • employees submit to their supervisors
  • citizens submit to law enforcement
  • slaves submit to their masters
But submission to God takes on a little different flavor. He is the one perfect, loving, all-knowing God who ALWAYS has our best interest in mind. I can’t say that about earthly parents, employers, police officers, or slave-owners. Everybody seems to have their own agenda and perspective.

Submission to God is what brings maturity to our lives. It brings joy and peace that the world can not comprehend.

Likewise, by submitting to God and resisting the devil, we protect ourselves from the joy-stealer — the one who brings confusion and despair.

According to this Scripture, we have two choices: God or Satan. This verse reminds me to live my life focusing on Him.
