Joy-Stealers

Wednesday, July 18, 2018

Sometimes we go through a period of joy only to have it dashed to pieces, leaving us empty and emotionless. What are the joy-stealers in our lives? How can we avoid them?

PEOPLE can sure do it. Relationships can be difficult and people in general can be critical, demanding, and disappointing. They can take the air out of our sails in two seconds flat.

CIRCUMSTANCES can rage out of control — finances, work, health issues, natural disasters. You name it. And joy goes out the window.

Remember that joy is deeply rooted in the Lord. It doesn’t come and go with the tide. If our joy is being stolen then there’s one sure-fire explanation for who is behind it. Satan. He can’t stand it when we are joyful. So he does his best to weasel his way into the circumstances in order to rip our joy from us.

He can only steal our joy if we let him. Stand your ground. When it becomes obvious what he is doing, I recommend saying something like this right out loud:
“Satan, you have no power over me. I am a child of the King. In the name of my Lord, Jesus Christ, leave me alone!”

Lord, thank you for freely giving us your joy. Help us to protect it from those who want to steal it away.
