Many have asked me about what’s going on with Johnson. I’m going to spend the next few days explaining:
Who he is.
What his dreams are.
Where he has already gone to school.
How he came so close to coming to the US.
Where he is now.
What has to happen for him to achieve his dream.
Who is Johnson Gerve?
He is the last child born to Haitian parents in Mombin Crochu, a small village in north eastern Haiti. In fact, from some of the hills in his area you can see the Dominican Republic.
First I met Johnson’s brother, Dr Renaud Gerve, through some missions lead by First Baptist Church in Richmond, KY. A few of us went on a medical team to help Dr Gerve with his remote clinics in Mombin. LeeAnn Brewer, Bill Jackson and I spent about a week there.
It was really cool seeing what Dr Gerve had been able to accomplish for his people. Before he started working with them, for instance, the incidence of stroke was extremely high basically because of lack of medical care. After establishing several clinics in the area, the stroke rate had dropped to nearly zero percent since people’s blood pressures were being controlled by regular medications.
And Johnson served as his brother’s right hand man. Whenever Renaud needed anything, he would call for Johnson. I had injured one knee prior to the trip and Renaud put Johnson in charge of taking care of me. Whatever I needed, Johnson helped me with it. He was easygoing, courteous, eager and just plain delightful. We both felt blessed by the other.
LORD, Thank you for directing LeeAnn, Bill J., and me to Haiti so that we could help further your work in Mombin. Thank you for bringing Johnson into my life. May your will be carried out for him.
