As a mother, I knew the voices of my children. I could tell by that one word, “Mom,” if they were hurt or scared or just wanted to ask me a question.
In that same throng of people, however, if everyone were to try to talk to me at the same time, I would have to throw up my hands and beseech them to speak one at a time. Why is that?
Because the human mind can understand only a limited about of auditory stimulation all at once. We are limited.
So how is it that God can hear my small voice calling His name at the exact same time that thousands of others are doing the same? Partly because He knows the voices of His children. And partly because, well, He is God. His comprehension and undivided attention are unlimited.
Imagine if all the people of the earth called on God and He threw up His hands and said, “one at a time, please.” Rest assured that He would never do that.
In my distress I called to the Lord; I cried to my God for help. From his temple he heard my voice; my cry came before him, into his ears.
Psalms 18:6 NIV
LORD, thank you that you know my voice and that you hear my cry no matter what.
