What Is God's Will?

Wednesday, February 28, 2018

This is good, and pleases God our Savior,
who wants all people to be saved
and to come to a knowledge of the truth.
I Timothy 2:3-4

For God did not send His Son into the world
to condemn the world,
but that the world through Him might be saved.
John 3:17

The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise,
as some understand slowness.
Instead he is patient with you,
not wanting anyone to perish,
but everyone to come to repentance.
II Peter 3:9

When God created man in the very beginning, He desired to have fellowship with him for the rest of his days. But sin entered the world through Adam and Eve and messed everything up. It wasn't God's fault. It was man's. Yet God's will never changed. It was and is his will to have fellowship with us while we are on this earth. He does not want ANYone to perish. It is His will for everybody to know Him and to spend eternity with Him in heaven.

But we are destined to be separated from Him unless we accept Him as our Lord and Savior.

I think it is important to recognize that God's will is totally centered around His Son. Jesus said:

For I am the way, the TRUTH, and the life.
No one comes to the Father but by me.
John 14:6

We cannot expect to be in God's will if we do not recognize that Jesus is the only avenue which leads us to Him. According to I Timothy 2:4, God wants us "to come to a knowledge of the truth." Is not that truth Jesus Christ, himself? The more we read the Scripture, the more we spend time with the Lord, the more we get to know Him -- the more we find ourselves centered in God's will.

What is God's will? It is for everybody to know Him well and to spend eternity with Him.

Lord, when we pray for your will to be done, help us to remember that there is an evangelistic component involved. Yes, we long for your will for our lives individually. But we must look around us to see the people who do not know you. It is your will that they find you and our obligation to help them along the way.
