Today as I was out and about, I noticed something. In the span of just a moment in one parking lot, I saw 6-7 cars that had body damage of some kind — a broken fender, pieces hanging down like they might fall off any minute, rusted places, duct tape covering an entire window, etc. Yet their drivers went on as if nothing was wrong. Instantly it occurred to me that “people are broken.”
I can only imagine that it was God who directed my mind to take such a leap. So I started thinking about it some more.
I browsed through social media and saw several instances where people were grieving the loss of friends and loved ones. Their lives have been shattered.
I spoke to someone who is hurting from a personal relationship, wondering what to do next and feeling broken.
I communicated with Johnson tonight. Ever since his U.S. visa was denied, he has really struggled. Life in Haiti is miserable, scary and hopeless. In many ways, he is broken.
Last Friday I told some young ladies a story about myself. One day when I was in the third grade, I did something to a boy at school that was really mean. It was premeditated and spiteful. And I got caught. I had let down my friends, my teacher and my parents. A few days later God showed me that I had disappointed Him, as well. I was broken.
So what is a person to do when the feeling of brokenness overwhelms them?
(1) In the case of the individual who is overwhelmed by their own personal transgressions, the answer is to talk to the Lord about it. If we confess our sins to Him and are truly sorry for what we did, He will wipe our guilt away and make us whole again. He will go so far as to adopt us into His family, not because we deserve it but because He wants to.
(2) In the case of the people who are grieving over their loved ones, the answer is to talk to the Lord about it. He walks along with us through the valley of the shadow of death. He provides spiritual nutrition, peace and comfort. His love will bring us out of the gloom and into the light.
(3) In the case of people trying to do the right thing but being pushed down and pushed away, the answer is to talk to the Lord about it. He is the one who gives us purpose and meaning in life. He is the one who can bring healing for the deepest pain.
We live in a lost and broken world full of sin and strife. Not until we reach heaven will that ever be truly rectified. But through a personal relationship with Jesus Christ, He provides the strength, wisdom, power and patience to carry on. He heals our earthly brokenness in preparation for complete heavenly wholeness.
Don’t give up doing the right thing.
Don’t forget your dreams.
Don’t take your eyes off of the Lord.
He is there for you.
if my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land.
2 Chronicles 7:14 NIV
LORD, sometimes we feel so terribly alone. Thank you that we are not. Thank you for being ready to heal our brokenness. Thank you for loving us.
Love this and that you used the image of broken clay pots.
