Be wise in the way you
act toward outsiders;
make the most of every opportunity.
Let your conversation be
always full of grace,
seasoned with salt,
so that you may know
how to answer everyone.
Colossians 4:5-6 NIV
Yesterday we talked about living our lives for Christ and not for ourselves. In that same vein, instead of thinking about ourselves, this Scripture says that we should think about those whom we encounter everyday. Our actions and words should be be careful and savory. And if we are living for Christ, then our actions and words should be with Him in mind.
Have you ever been an outsider?
How does it feel to be treated like you don’t belong?
How awkward is it when you don’t know the inside stories?
How difficult is it to fit in?
How easy is it to say you’ll never put yourself in that place again?
Think about these questions the next time you’re with your friends and somebody new shows up. Put yourself in their shoes and make them feel welcome.
Always ask God how to face every situation so that you can honor those around you and bring glory to the Lord.
Father, thank you for giving us Scripture that is practical for everyday living. May we do well in following Your guidelines.
