Pure Prairie League sang about Amie: “Fallin’ in and out of love with you....” They make love sound like a light switch. I don’t know about that, but I would like to suggest that to love is a choice.
When my children were infants, I couldn’t help but to love them. They were so sweet and innocent and lovable.
When they were teenagers . . . . My love for them was more like a choice than an emotion.
When a mother stands in a courtroom facing her child’s killer and forgives him for his crime — that kind of love is a choice, not an emotion.
When you have a coworker that rubs everybody the wrong way — you have a choice to make. Either join with the crowd and refuse to befriend him or reach out to him and show him God’s love.
It’s up to us to show the world who God is. And the best way to do that is by choosing to love them. It takes effort. It takes energy. It takes time. The Holy Spirit empowers us to do it but it’s our choice.
Lord, we know You love us all and that it is Your desire for all to be with you in eternity. Help us to be your ambassadors of love to the whole world, that they might experience Your Love first hand and give their lives to you.
