Here are some of the things new believers need to know about and learn how to do.
- Baptism
- Daily Quiet Times
- Bible Study
- Memorization of Scripture
- Scripture Meditation
- CorporateWorship
- Fellowship with other believers
- Sharing their faith with others
CORPORATE WORSHIP
Ive heard it a thousand times: "I don't need to be at church to worship."
While it may be true that I can worship other places, I find that it is extremely important to find a body of believers with which to worship.
- I glean so much from their contribution to the service.
- I am better able to keep my mind on track.
- I am able to hear a sermon from someone who has prepared and prayed and sought the Lord's direction in the delivery process.
And so I feel it is important to encourage the new believer to find a church body that is welcoming and encouraging, and one where he/she will get solid, Biblical messages from the pulpit.
FELLOWSHIP
No man is an island.
While that is not scriptural, it has truth in it.
A new believer is much like a newborn baby, needing age-appropriate nourishment and care. We should encourage the new believer to:
- get involved in a small group Bible study class for further development and friendship.
- go to cookouts and other gatherings with like-minded church people.
- play sports with church-sponsored teams.
- join support groups in the church.
It's too hard to grow up in this world by ourselves. We need each other for strength and encouragement.
Lord, so much of maturing spiritually includes involvement with other believers. Help us to recognize when a younger believer is lacking in this area so that we can invite him/her to church activities with us.
