Top 10 Resolutions: Learn Something New/New Hobby

Top 10 New Year’s Resolutions:
Learn Something New/New Hobby

All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy.
proverb

I have had various hobbies over the years and they have all helped me to find balance in my life. Through high school it was sewing. Through college it was ceramics and volleyball. Music has always been in there -- playing saxophone or piano or handbells or singing in a group or with a choir. I've thoroughly enjoyed learning the art of scrapbooking. And now I've somehow found myself involved in creating my own art.

So what are your hobbies?

If you were to learn something new or to pick up a new hobby, what would it be?
  • a new language
  • chess strategies
  • snow skiing
  • basket weaving
  • knitting
  • woodworking
  • disciple-making
  • a musical instrument
  • water color
  • horseback riding
  • fishing
  • golf
  • stamp collecting
  • coin collecting
  • reading
I think it is safe to say that this won't happen unless you decide what it's going to be and map out a game plan. Do you need to take a class? Can you learn all you need from the Internet? Do you need to find some people to network with?

Here's an idea for you. If you'd like to help new believers get on the right track with personal Bible study and spiritual growth, take a 12ish week disciple-maker's class at your church. FBC Richmond offers this on Wednesday or Sunday nights and we are ALWAYS looking for more people to help with mentoring. This class teaches you HOW to disciple. It's really cool and would be a great thing to learn in this new year.

Lord, what would you have us learn this year? Is there something new that we could use to reach more people for you? Is there something that we need to learn in order to bring more balance to our lives? Help us be open to broadening our horizons.
