DanceBlue:
theUniversity of Kentucky
24 Hour DanceMarathon
the
24 Hour Dance
This blog post is for my daughter, Lizzie. She
is a freshman nursing major at the University of Kentucky . We are so proud of how
well she has adjusted to the demands of university life, juggling her classes,
her sorority and personal time so very well. She even got a 4.0 last semester.
(I never did that!)
This semester Lizzie’s big project is to raise
money for UK ’s DanceBlue. “What is DanceBlue?” you might ask. “DanceBlue
is a year long fundraising effort, culminating in a 24-hour no sitting, no
sleeping dance marathon right in the heart of the University of Kentucky ’s campus. All of our
efforts support the DanceBlue Kentucky Children’s Hospital Pediatric
Hematology/Oncology Clinic.” http://danceblue.org/fast-facts/
DanceBlue originated in 2006 because of the courage of
one young man who, after valiantly battling cancer for several years, lost his
life in 2002. In its inaugural year the participating students raised $123,323.00.
“DanceBlue has become the largest philanthropic event in the South Eastern
Conference and one of the fastest growing dance marathons in the entire United States .” In 2016 they raised
$1,631,067.00! http://danceblue.org/our-story-2/
Lizzie’s sorority, Delta Zeta, is attempting to
gather $42,000 for the cause.
If you can donate even $5-10 on this website,
please do. There's a place in the on-line process where you can list Lizzie
Fort as the dancer to get the credit. She has already raised her requisite $500
but wants to help DZ and the children of Kentucky even further.
Unfortunately the deadline for Lizzie to get the
credit is TODAY, January 31. So please donate “before midnight tonight!”
Thank you in advance (from Lizzie) for how you
will bless these children.
