Neither height nor depth,
nor anything else in all creation,
will be able to separate us
from the love of God
that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Romans 8:39 NIV
I love this verse. I think it is quite fascinating. All throughout the New Testament we read that Jesus wants to be the Lord of our lives. His Holy Spirit lives within His believers and we are His temple. So, really, wherever we are, He is.
If we are in the International Space Station, He is there.
If we are all alone in the midst of a crowd, He is there.
If we are on the highest mountain, figuratively or literally, He is there.
If we are in the deepest depth of despair, He is there.
No one -- no thing -- can on its own be a barrier between us and God. Keep in mind, though, that EVERYthing can come between us if we let it.
So really this verse is totally dependent on us. God and His love are where we are no matter what. But when we let other things get in the way of our relationship, we naturally think it's His fault when in reality it's ours.
Lord, how wonderful it is to know that no matter how difficult our lives get, we are not alone if you are the Lord of our lives. Your love lives within us all the time. How awesome that is! You are the God of the universe! And you are with me!
