PSALM 19:1-6
1The heavens declare the (glory of God,)
and the expanse proclaims
(the work of his hands. )
2Day after day they pour out (speech;)
night after night they communicate
(knowledge.)
3There is no speech;
there are no words; their
voice is not heard.
4Their message has gone out (to the whole earth,) and their words (to the ends of
the world.)
In the heavens He has pitched a tent for the sun.
In the heavens He has pitched a tent for the sun.
5It is like a bridegroom coming from his
home; it rejoices like an athlete running a course.
6It rises from one end of the heavens and
circles to the other end; nothing is hidden from its heat.
As I was driving to
church last night, I began thinking about all that is wrong with the world:
crime, drugs, self-centeredness, hatred, etc.
But the Lord reminded me of Psalm 19. I’ve marked it up a bit for this
blog in hopes that you will be able to see some of the parallels between the
verses / phrases.
No matter what is going on here on this sin-filled planet,
God is still the Creator. He still deserves the glory from His creation. The
works of His hands are still magnificent. The heavens, though they don’t utter
words as we know them, speak loudly of His supremacy. He, alone, is worthy of
our praise.
All people are aware of the sun. God makes a place for it to
spend the night (we can’t see it so, to us, it has gone inside). He brings it
out with joy and anticipation in the morning like a bridegroom comes out for
his special wedding day. (Revelation portrays Christ as the Bridegroom – the
day when He comes to meet his bride, the Church, will be a joyful one, indeed.)
And God causes the sun to streak across the sky like a trained athlete headed
for the finish line. We are all aware of the heat that it brings – its life-giving
energy is paramount to healthy growth (physically and emotionally).
We must be aware of God’s creation around us. But we mustn’t
get complacent about its beauty. We must thank Him for blessing us with it. And
when Satan’s craftiness tries to discourage us or block our vision, we mush
rebuke him and concentrate on the Lord. Bask in the radiance of His creation
today.
Lord, thank you for blessing us with the beauty of the
earth. Thank you for speaking to us through it. May the whole world recognize
your handiwork and admit that You do exist and that You are God.
