Tell Me About the Christmas Baby:
An Advent Devotional Guide

“All things came into being by Him, and apart from Him nothing came into being.”
John 1:3

Do you ever think how like children we still are? Like children we anticipate Christmas, we make a wish list for gifts, we bake cookies to make the house “smell like Christmas.” We even put our little cresches out, with the baby Jesus clearly visible to remind us of the real meaning of Christmas. And in our minds, that’s how we see Jesus – a tiny infant.

Not so, says John. That little infant is the Word Incarnate. Jesus, who made everything allowed himself to be wrapped in the body of a tiny, helpless baby because He knew that we could not comprehend God unless we could relate to Him. We cannot imagine a God who is everywhere, who knows everything, who has absolute power, but we can imagine a baby. An omnipotent, omnipresent, omniscient God we cannot comprehend, but a tine baby we can imagine, and we feel warm and pleasant at the very thought.

We must remember, however as we contemplate this child, as we hold him in our minds, that we are holding the Creator of everything! God actually came here as a helpless, innocent baby!

Father, God Incarnate, thank you for coming as a baby. Help us to realize fully who you are.Amen.
