The Wonder of
What God Has Done Through His Son:
An Advent Devotional Guide
Be devoted to one another in brotherly love; give
preference to one another in honor; not lagging behind in diligence, fervent in
spirit, serving the Lord; rejoicing in hope, persevering in tribulation,
devoted to prayer, contributing to the needs of the saints, practicing
hospitality.”
Romans 12:10-11
I wish I had adequate words to tell you what a huge lesson I had as I am
writing this. I went through the Bible many weeks ago, looking for verses, praying
that the Lord would lead me to the ones that would encourage us all during this
Advent season. So this verse was not chosen at this minute. However, as I began
to write, I realized something.
This is a lovely passage taken from a chapter in which Paul tells us how
we are to be living testimonies of our faith. As I typed the two verses above,
I thought, “My goodness! We’ll never make it if this is to be our model! This
is expecting a lot of every one of us!” I almost changed verses. Then I looked
at the portion about hope, and I felt so ashamed! We have a wonderful
church, and this model is not impossible! We should – no we must – rejoice in
the hope that though following this model won’t be easy, it’s possible
with God’s help! I’ll let you evaluate what areas we need to let God work on in
us, but I am rejoicing in the hope that we in Homosassa United Methodist
Church can accomplish what Paul admonishes us to do!
We’re doing pretty well! It’s exciting to know that we are going to do
better!
Father, We do rejoice in the hope that you are going to make us an
even better church than we are. May it be soon! Amen
